It’s really depressing how Labor Day has gone from “give laborers a day off” to “give white collar office workers and executives a day off but make retail laborers work so that executives can get a latte on their day off”
Nobody is making anyone work. If you don’t want to work on that day, don’t.
Like a month ago I messaged a craft group about accessibility for wheelchairs and the answer I got was “there’s a lot of stairs but we have cute boys who can carry you”.
And it’s…not good. As a wheelchair bound person I largely depend on people when I want to go out and do *anything* so I’m used to it, I laugh it off, make an annoyed post about it and off I go. But I wanna just say a thing real quick.
Even if I wasn’t gay, wasn’t a survivor scared of men, getting help as a disabled person is just…Not a pleasant thing to us! Imagine for a sec how you’d feel being carried up a flight of stairs. You’re a grown person. You’re being touched in an awkward way. You’d rather do it yourself. You’re So Uncomfortable. It’s not where I look for the beginning of a romantic relationship.
So like…could abled people stop doing this thing where they think helping us in a condescending and infantilizing way is cute? Cause I’m real tired. Just get me a ramp or lift and I’m cool. I don’t need a dating service when I’m just trying to go about my day
If you’re abled please reblog it cause like…the more ppl knows the better
It’s an extremely popular opinion among middle and upper class white people.
Also, aside from this completely uneducated reasoning as to why minimum wage was created…
I can guarantee that there are tens of thousands of teenagers who have to pay bills and help support their families or are the only financial supporter to their family.
Not to mention, if these businesses are only being run by teenagers, then they wouldn’t be able to function or run during school hours.
From now on, all McDonalds can only operate between 4:30pm-10pm on weekdays.
Someone already shared this on Facebook, and sorry, but I have to disagree. At least partially.
Here in Missouri, minimum wage is definitely enough to get by on. I’ve been surviving on a part time minimum wage job for almost two months.
Now - I’m in an apartment with a few other guys, so rent/utilities are split up between us, and even though Missouri’s price of living is dirt cheap - it leaves me very little spending money. But regardless, we shouldn’t be saying it’s impossible “anywhere in the US” when it’s plenty possible to live off of minimum wage in at least one place.
Easy? No. But possible.
With multiple roommates. So you arent actually covering the rent with your minimum wage job. Its taking multiple people in one house to do so. Thats the point.
I work minimum wage, 31 hours a week (1 hour under “full time) and it’s not enough. My mom brings in more money and for our one bedroom apartment we never have enough food and the bills keep pilling up.
Our lives should not have to be a constant struggle between homelessness, starvation and the long drive to try and make our lives better.
I don’t hang out with white dudes who use mustache wax anymore bc it’s only a matter of time b4 they fall in love with me and find out I’m gay and write a song on their…idk..their fuckin harpsichord or banjo or ukulele about the girl from the forest who broke their heart but also they don’t even like hiking
i know this seems oddly specific & that’s bc it is
